If you are looking for the speakeasy sceen, then Red Phone Booth NEEDS to be on you list of places to visit. Its hard to find and at times hard to get into -- but I guess that's the point of a good speakeasy. [If you are staying in the downtown area, ask the conceige]
Red Phone Booth IS a cigar speakeasy and I would guestimate that only about 1/3 of the men and woman envibe -- they have an incredible ventilation system and there is ample space between seats; however, the aroma may offend some.
There are 2 locations in Atlanta -- Downtown and Buckhead. Each has their own personality and I visit both - often. If you are looking to hang out with a larger group, Buckhead may be the better choice. Its kind of dead during the week, but on the weekend it is usually packed. I have spotted a couple of R&B celebs here. Service at the tables requires a little patience and usually grab a seat at the bar. The downtown location is a little less pretentious and the bartenders are just plain awesome. Cash is an awesome bartender / juggler and puts on a show. Each drink is a detrerous feat and worth watching.
This is a place were all the drinks are handcrafted. I love watching the bartender chop up ice blocks with a cleaver to get it fit into the glass. There list of spirits is endless and experts in recommending wiskeys or burbons if that is your jam. There website boasts 180 whiskeys -- and I believe it. I confess they have sold me on the Nikki Japennese whiskeys.
The food is Italian inpired small plates with a high-end appeal. Its not a fried cheeze stick type of place -- I have tried the polpette, gnocch, and calamari. All super good. I love the small plates just for something to snack on while I am up there.
I made a birthday trip to downtown with a friend, getting seats at the bar. There happen to be a conference in Atlanta that weekend and there were a number of out of town guests visiting RPB. I am a people person, and love meeting new people. I have never met a sales or marketing that was bashful about having a conversation. If you are in business, looking to be in business .... or just meet people this is the perfect time to visit -- that Thursday-Saturday window.
